Have you ever taken a moment to sit back and count your blessings. I'm not talking about living in a beautiful house, driving your dream car or the ability to go on the holiday of a lifetime. Things like a hug when needed, encouragement from parents and friends and a loving environment in which you grew up, are the TRUE blessings in life so many of us take for granted! On Saturday 3 March my colleagues an I spent the day at a "House of Safety", where sexually and physically abused children spend 6-12 months, awaiting the court's decision to the most scary question any child could face :"Where and to whom will I go?". Helpnet is a Non-Profit Organisation in South Africa, subsidizing and raising funds for three houses in the area where these children await court verdicts, and subsequently their future fate.
We painted their rooms, donated new linen for their beds, new towels for all and enjoyed lunch on the lawn, followed by games in the pool. We believe we have given them a "Home" for the next few months, and all the Hotel STAFF certainly gained valuable experience from this.
